On Sunday, September 22, 2024 at 5:00 at the Chester Meeting House, Robbie Collomore Concerts presents rising star pianist Baron Fenwick and his equally talented colleague, cellist Elena Ariza, in recital.
Mr. Fenwick and Ms. Ariza have selected a most interesting and eclectic program. The two major works on the program are Francis Poulenc’s Cello Sonata and Felix Mendelssohn’s Cello Sonata No. 2 in Di Major. They will also perform a suite written by Anne Wang, a friend of Mr. Fenwick’s, called “The Cat That Lived a Million Times,” and a selection of movements from Bach’s great works for pianoforte and cello/gamba.
Baron Fenwick, a leading pianist of his generation, is the winner of numerous awards, including the Silver medal in the 2019 Sendai International Music Competition in Japan. A graduate with Master’s and Bachelor’s degrees from Mannes College of Music, he is currently working on a Doctorate of Musical Arts at The Juilliard School. Baron has performed a wide range of repertoire, including four world premiere piano concertos, and has appeared as soloist with many US orchestras, including the Charlotte Symphony. In addition to working as a Teaching Fellow at Juilliard, he maintains a private teaching studio. Originally from Boone, North Carolina, he currently resides in New York City.
Cellist Elena Ariza is rapidly establishing herself as one of today’s most creative and community-driven artists. Elena won first prize at the 2022 Gustav Mahler Cello Competition, and was a finalist in both the 2021 and 2019 Juilliard Concerto Competitions. Elena was a featured cellist on Yo-Yo Ma’s groundbreaking Music Art Life project and on NPR’s From the Top. Passionate about community activism, she has organized fundraiser concerts for the 2011 Japanese tsunami, the 2021 Haitian earthquake, and most recently, for those affected by the Russian war in Ukraine. Elena is currently a C.V. Starr Doctoral Fellow at Juilliard, studying with Joel Krosnick and Astrid Schween.
